Activity Level

Activity Level: Very High

The Tour du Mont Blanc is a strenuous trek due to its length, daily elevation gain, and multi-day nature. Expect 12 days of hiking between 7–11 miles per day, with 7–10 hours on the trail daily. Elevation changes range from a minimum of 1,700 ft to a maximum of 4,300 ft of vertical gain, and 1,400 ft to 5,000 ft of vertical loss each day (see the detailed itinerary below for estimated mileage and elevation each day). Maximum altitude reached is 8,323 feet. Trails are generally well-maintained mountain paths, with occasional off-trail sections.

This trip is built for intermediate hikers and above. This is one of the world’s premier long-distance hikes - ideal for those with prior trekking experience (although not required) or hikers who are ready to challenge themselves with a multi-day route. Good physical fitness is essential, and previous experience with hikes over 5 miles is highly recommended to get the most out of this adventure.

Important: If a participant is deemed unable to safely complete the trek by the certified trekking guide, no refunds will be issued, and the participant will be responsible for arranging and covering their own transportation home.

Accommodation Details

This adventure includes 2 nights in a comfortable hotel in Chamonix - one at the beginning and one at the end of the trek - ideal for relaxing and regrouping before and after the journey. Hotel rooms in Chamonix are double occupancy and will be shared among participants. Please note that single supplements are not available for this trip.

During the trek, nights will be spent in a mix of mountain huts, refuges, and small inns tucked along the route. These accommodations are rustic and communal, offering a true alpine trekking experience. Expect shared sleeping quarters, typically dormitory-style rooms with bunk beds that can sleep up to 20+ people. Bathrooms and showers are shared, and hot water for showers may be limited and timed.

Meals at the huts are usually served family-style with set menus featuring hearty local dishes. Dietary restrictions can be accommodated with advance notice. Evenings often include gathering around the table for drinks, chatting, and playing games as a group. Staying in these mountain refuges is truly a highlight where you'll meet fellow hikers from around the world and part of what makes the Tour du Mont Blanc so special!
