About this trip

Embark on an unforgettable 10-day, 9-night adventure through Chilean Patagonia on the legendary O Trek in Torres del Paine National Park! This incredible journey completes the full O Circuit, taking hikers through some of the most remote and spectacular landscapes in Chilean Patagonia. Along the way, you'll trek beneath mountain peaks, alongside blue glacial lakes, across suspension bridges, and over the iconic John Gardner Pass. The route also includes the famous Base Torres lookout. Your nights are spent in a combination of cozy mountain refugios and scenic campsites where you'll enjoy homemade meals to start and end each day. Throughout the trek, you'll be led by a certified trekking guide to keep you on track, while we take care of all the logistics including airport transfers in Puerto Natales, transportation to and from the national park, all accommodations, and all meals during the 8-day trek. The adventure begins and ends in the charming Patagonian town of Puerto Natales, giving you time to settle in before with a group welcome dinner on Night 1 and celebrate on the last night after completing this bucket-list trek!

Highlights

This trip is crafted for you to enjoy an unforgettable adventure through the stunning landscapes of Chilean Patagonia on the legendary O Trek. Here's what's in store:

  • Trek the complete O Circuit through Torres del Paine National Park, experiencing one of the world's most iconic multi-day trekking routes

  • Cross the spectacular John Gardner Pass and take in unforgettable views of the immense Southern Patagonian Ice Field before descending alongside the breathtaking Grey Glacier

  • Explore Chilean Patagonia's most famous highlights, including the iconic Base Torres viewpoint, the French Valley, turquoise glacial lakes, hanging glaciers, and towering mountain peaks

  • Experience the quieter, more remote northern side of the park, where fewer hikers venture and the wilderness feels truly untouched

  • Spend your nights in a mix of cozy mountain refugios and scenic campsites (with camping equipment provided for you), enjoying homemade meals and hanging out with the group after each day's adventure

Accommodation Details

This adventure includes 2 nights in a comfortable hotel in Puerto Natales, one before and one after the trek, giving you time to settle in, organize your gear, and celebrate completing the O Circuit. Hotel rooms are double occupancy and will be shared among participants.

During the trek, you'll spend 7 nights in a combination of mountain refugios and campsites throughout Torres del Paine National Park. Accommodations are rustic and designed for hikers. Refugios often offer shared mixed-gender dormitory-style rooms with bunk beds, while the campsites include pre-pitched tents and camping equipment, allowing you to enjoy the backpacking experience without carrying or setting up your own camping gear. Bathrooms and showers are shared, and hot water may be limited depending on the location.

Meals are served at the refugios and camps. Breakfast and dinner are enjoyed at each overnight accommodation, while lunch is typically a boxed picnic lunch that you'll carry with you and enjoy on the trail. Dietary restrictions can be accommodated with advance notice. Evenings are spent relaxing with your fellow hikers, hanging at the refugios, and taking in the incredible scenery of Patagonia. While the accommodations are simple, staying in these remote refugios and camps is an unforgettable part of the O Trek experience and one of the best ways to fully immerse yourself in Torres del Paine National Park!

Activity Level

Activity Level: Very High

The O Trek is a demanding backpacking adventure through the remote wilderness of Torres del Paine National Park. Expect 8 consecutive days of hiking between ~7–12 miles (~11–19 km) per day, with sometimes up to 12 hours on the trail depending on the stage, trail conditions, and weather.

The route includes rugged mountain trails, rocky uneven terrain, river crossings, steep ascents and descents, suspension bridges, exposed sections, and a challenging ascent over John Gardner Pass (3,937 ft / 1,200 m), the highest point on the trek. The combination of consecutive hiking days, varied terrain, elevation gain/loss each day, unpredictable Patagonia weather , and carrying your own backpack makes this a very physically demanding experience. (See the detailed itinerary below for estimated mileage and hiking times each day.)

The Patagonia weather adds an additional level of difficulty for this trek. Conditions in Torres Del Paine are unpredictable and can change quickly, even in the summer months. Participants should be prepared to hike in very strong winds, rain, cold temperatures, and potentially even snow or sleet, as well as sunny and warm conditions.

Luggage transfer is not provided meaning participants will carry their own backpack for the duration of the trek, including clothing, personal gear, water, and other essentials (camping equipment, food, and sleeping gear will not need to be carried between camps). This trip is best suited for experienced hikers, backpackers, or very fit intermediate hikers who are ready to take on a challenging multi-day trek. Previous multi-day hiking or backpacking experience is recommended, but not required. Participants should have experience with longer hikes (think 8+ miles) with significant elevation gain and loss and be comfortable with the general mileage and elevation demands outlined in the itinerary. Prior experience hiking with a loaded backpack is strongly recommended or those who are willing to train with one before the trip. Good physical fitness is essential, and participants should be prepared for long days on mountain trails, consecutive hiking days, varied and sometimes technical terrain, and the cumulative challenge of completing the full route in order to safely and fully enjoy this adventure. All participants should train specifically for the demands of their trip before departure.

This trip is not suited for beginner hikers!

Important: If a participant is deemed unable to safely complete the trek by the certified trekking guide, no refunds will be issued, and the participant will be responsible for arranging and covering their own transportation, accommodations, and any additional expenses incurred in order to leave the trek and afterward.

Who is this trek for?

The O Trek is designed for women who are experienced hikers/backpackers, comfortable spending long days on the trail, and physically prepared for the demands of an 8-day backpacking trek in a challenging environment. You should come into this trip with a strong hiking fitness base and a good understanding of what consecutive days of challenging hiking with a full backpack feel like.

This trip may be a great fit for you if:

  • You hike regularly and have experience completing challenging full-day hikes

  • You are comfortable hiking approximately 7–12 miles per day over mountainous and uneven terrain

  • You have experience hiking on consecutive days and know that your body handles that volume of activity well

  • You are physically prepared to carry a loaded backpack for the duration of the trek (backpacking can be much more difficult than regular hiking with a day pack)

  • You are comfortable being on the trail for long days, which may occasionally reach 10–12 hours

  • You understand that Patagonia's weather can be very unpredictable, even in the summer months, and are comfortable hiking through strong wind, rain, cold, snow, and fast changing conditions

  • You are comfortable with the more rustic and off-grid nature of a backcountry trek, including shared refugios, sleeping in mixed-gender dorms in bunk beds, camping, limited amenities, shared bathrooms, and remote environments

  • You are willing to prepare and train specifically for the trek leading up to departure

This trip is likely not the right fit if you are new to hiking, have primarily completed shorter or flatter hikes, have never experienced hiking with a loaded backpack, or are unsure whether you can comfortably complete strenuous hikes for multiple consecutive days. Our priority is for everyone to have an incredible experience while keeping the group safe. Because the O Trek travels through a very remote area where the route can be difficult at times, all participants need to arrive adequately prepared for the physical demands of the itinerary. Ultimately, our certified trekking guide has the authority to determine whether a participant can safely continue the trek.
