Get ready for a 10-day, 9-night adventure through Argentine Patagonia, combining horseback riding, hiking, and glacier trekking! The trip begins in El Calafate before heading to Estancia Nibepo Aike, a traditional working ranch bordering Los Glaciares National Park. From here, you'll set out on a 4-day backcountry horseback riding program, riding alongside local guides between remote, off-grid ranch outposts where you'll stay the night. Along the way, you'll also spend a day exploring the "Hidden Glaciers", crossing glacial lakes by boat and hiking to remote viewpoints overlooking some of the park's most remote glaciers and an iceberg-filled lake.

After returning to El Calafate, you'll experience another side of Patagonia with a guided trek directly on the famous Perito Moreno Glacier. The final part of the trip takes you to El Chaltén, known as the “Trekking Capital of Argentina,” where you'll have time to explore the cozy mountain town and take on the Laguna de los Tres hike beneath the iconic Fitz Roy. Accommodations, transportation, guides, and trip logistics are all taken care of, so you can focus fully taking in the experience!

• Ride alongside professional local guides on a 4-day/3-night horseback journey through the remote Patagonian backcountry, staying at an authentic working estancia

• Cruise across two glacial lakes and trek to little-known viewpoints on the Hidden Glaciers excursion — a true off-the-beaten-path kind of experience!

• Strap into crampons and trek across the ice of the iconic Perito Moreno Glacier with glacier guides, exploring its blue ice, crevasses, and other glacial formations

• Hike to the base of the legendary Fitz Roy peak on a guided Laguna de los Tres trek (or similar trek), with jaw-dropping views of the turquoise glacial lake and jagged mountain range

• Explore El Chaltén, a charming mountain town known as the “Trekking Capital of Argentina,” with a free day to wander, relax, or tackle more epic trails

Experience Required: Horseback Riding

The first 4 days of this trip take you into the Patagonian backcountry on a multi-day horseback riding journey through remote areas of Estancia Nibepo Aike and Los Glaciares National Park. You'll ride from one remote outpost to the next, spending extended periods in the saddle (up to 6 hours a day) and traveling over varied natural terrain, including mountain trails, forest, rocky areas, grasslands, and uneven terrain.

This trip is not suitable for beginner horseback riders. Per the estancia's requirements, participants must have previous horseback riding experience, including experience spending extended periods (approximately 6 hours) in the saddle. Riders should be comfortable independently controlling, steering, and stopping a horse and riding at both a walk and trot. Advanced technical riding experience, such as jumping or galloping, is not required.

Horseback riding is an inherently unpredictable activity. Horses are animals and may react unexpectedly to their surroundings, other horses, wildlife, weather, or trail conditions. Because this portion of the trip takes place in remote backcountry terrain, participants should understand and be comfortable with the inherent risks associated with horseback riding before booking.

Activity Level: High

This is an active, adventure-focused trip that combines multiple days of horseback riding with several hiking experiences of varying lengths and difficulty. Participants should arrive with a good level of overall fitness and be comfortable spending full days outdoors and on their feet.

The Hidden Glaciers excursion includes approximately 9 miles (14 km) and 6 hours of hiking through remote terrain with relatively little elevation gain. The Perito Moreno Glacier Mini Trekking excursion includes approximately 3 to 4 hours of walking across varied terrain (including moraine, forest, and directly on glacier ice) with about one hour spent trekking directly on the glacier in crampons. Finally, the Laguna de los Tres hike is the most physically demanding hiking day of the trip, covering approximately 14 miles with around 3,000 ft of elevation gain and a very steep, strenuous ascent and descent along the route.

You do not need to be an advanced hiker to join this trip, however, this trip is not recommended for complete beginner hikers. Participants should have previous hiking experience, be comfortable with long days on the trail, and be prepared to train for the more demanding hikes before departure if needed.

This trip includes shared accommodations throughout and does not offer a single room option. At the estancia lodge (the cozy main ranch house on Day 1) and hotels, rooms are all double occupancy. Outside of the backcountry portion of the trip, you'll stay in comfortable, upscale hotels including Hotel Mirador del Lago in El Calafate and Los Cerros del Chaltén in El Chaltén — which are great places to relax and recharge between adventures.

During the backcountry portion of the trip, you’ll stay in remote cabin outposts where you’ll sleep in bunk beds in a shared room with up to 10 people (your group of 8 and up to 2 guides). Please note: the cabin outposts are very rustic and completely off-grid, offering a unique and immersive Patagonian ranch experience. While both cabins have flushing toilets and drinking water, only one has a shower, and neither has electricity, cell phone service, or Wi-Fi — making it a great place to truly unplug and connect with your surroundings. The beds at the cabins are bunk beds where you will sleep in sleeping bags.

If you're traveling solo (which most of our guests do!), we’ll match you with a roommate. If you have a preferred roommate, just let us know during booking and we’ll do our best to accommodate your request.

This trip is perfect for adventurous women who want to experience Patagonia beyond the typical tourist routes and are excited to explore it by horseback and on foot! You don't need to be an expert athlete or advanced equestrian, but you should have previous horseback riding and hiking experience as well as have overall a good base level of fitness for this active itinerary.

This trip may be a great fit for you if you:

• Have previous horseback riding experience and are comfortable spending up to 6 hours in the saddle

• Are comfortable independently controlling, steering, and stopping a horse and riding at both a walk and trot

• Have previous hiking experience and are willing to train for longer and more strenuous hiking days, including the ~14-mile Laguna de los Tres trek

• Are comfortable with walking over varied outdoor terrain, changing weather, and full days of adventure on your feet

• Are excited about spending several days in remote backcountry where accommodations are very rustic, amenities are limited, and there is no cell service or Wi-Fi

• Understand that horseback riding involves inherent risks and are comfortable riding in a remote area

• Are flexible, adventurous, and excited to experience both the rugged and more comfortable sides of Patagonia

This trip is not suitable for beginner horseback riders. While you do not need to be an advanced hiker, it is also not recommended for complete beginner hikers. Participants should arrive prepared for the physical demands of the itinerary to get the most out of the experience and excited to embrace the adventurous, remote nature of this trip

Along with professional guides who will accompany you throughout the activities on the trip, you will also be joined be a More Girls Outdoors Ambassador. Our Ambassador is the friendly face who keeps the trip running smoothly — handling the logistics, guiding the group through the itinerary, and making sure everyone’s where they need to be. She is also your go-to for any questions or issues and will capture awesome photos throughout the trip to share with everyone afterward. We’re still picking the perfect person for this role, but you can count on them to make the experience easy, fun, and unforgettable. (Note: Kat, founder of More Girls Outdoors, will not be joining this trip but is working on picking her perfect replacement!)

Our trip will begin and end at the El Calafate International Airport (FTE) in Argentina. (Please do not book flights until confirming your arrival/departure times with More Girls Outdoors after you've booked your trip)

By booking this trip, you agree to our Terms & Conditions, the full document will be provided for your review at the time of booking. A non-refundable $700 deposit is required to reserve your spot at the time of booking. The remaining amount is due 60 days prior to trip departure. Late or missed payments may result in removal from the trip without refund. 

Cancellations made more than 120 days before the trip may be eligible for a partial refund (minus the deposit and any non-recoverable vendor fees). Cancellations within 120 days of the trip are non-refundable. Deposits can be transferred once to a future trip or another participant for a $100 fee.

Travel insurance is required and must include emergency medical and evacuation coverage.

Arrival into El Calafate airport (FTE) where you will meet the group and be greeted by your MGO Ambassador! The group will then take a private transfer from the airport to the Estancia Lodge where you'll have time to explore, have a group welcome dinner, and meet with your horseback riding guide to get a debrief of the next few days.

After a brief chat & meeting with your guide, you will meet and mount our horses & begin your ride. After a few hours, you'll arrive at the outpost where you'll be staying the night and enjoy a picnic lunch. In the afternoon, you'll enjoy a ride to the southernmost point of the estancia, where Argentina meets Chile. The evening is spent relaxing around the fire with dinner. 

Overnight: Nibepo Aike Cabin Outpost (Puesto La Rosada )

Your day begins with a ride through the Río Cachorro Valley, offering views of towering mountains and glaciers, before reaching a true gaucho outpost for a picnic lunch. You'll then continue your ride, passing 3 de Abril lagoon,  before arriving at your next outpost cabin. Ending with a cozy meal by the wood-fired stove & time to relax and explore!

After breakfast, you'll ride to the lake shore to meet your guides for a full day hiking & boating adventure. You’ll take a boat across Lago Argentino followed by a short trek, another boat, and a hike to an incredible and remote glacier lookout.  You’ll enjoy lunch surrounded by glaciers and icebergs, before returning to the outpost. Total hiking distance is 14km (around 6 hours).

The return journey will take you riding along the shore of the lake until you return back to the Estancia. You will arrive in time for lunch of a typical Patagonian meal. After lunch, a shuttle service will take you to El Calafate where you'll check into the hotel and have time to explore the town the rest of the afternoon.

In the morning, you'll depart for Los Glaciares National Park and the Perito Moreno Glacier. After a boat ride across Lago Rico, you'll meet your glacier guides and gear up with provided crampons and helmets before heading onto the glacier itself! You'll spend approximately an hour trekking across the ice, exploring the glacier's incredible beauty and unique ice formations. Afterward, you'll walk through the surrounding landscape before visiting the Perito Moreno boardwalks for panoramic views of the glacier. After this full day experience, you'll return to El Calafate in the evening.

In the morning, a shuttle will take you from El Calafate to El Chalten. After arriving to the “Trekking Capital of Argentina” and checking into your hotel,  you’ll have the rest of the day at leisure to explore this stunning mountain town known for its incredible hiking trails. You can choose to explore, relax or hike! 

Overnight: Los Cerros de Chalten Boutique Hotel (or similar)

Today you'll do a full-day guided trek of the Laguna de Los Tres trail (or similar trail). Your guide will arrive in the morning and a transfer will take you to the trailhead where you will start your trek. Once you reach Laguna de los Tres, you’ll have the opportunity to take in the views of the turquoise waters and the towering peaks. Total hiking distance is around 21 km round trip (approximately 14 miles).

Overnight: Los Cerros de Chalten Boutique Hotel (or similar)

On your final day, you will have a a full free day in El Chatlen! This will give you time to explore the numerous hikes in the area, go souvenir shopping, or plan your own activity.
