About your trip

Get ready for an epic 10-day, 9-night adventure through Patagonia in Argentina! This trip blends horseback riding through the remote Patagonian backcountry with hiking some of the region’s most iconic trails. It all starts in El Calafate, where travelers will head to Estancia Nibepo Aike—a traditional working ranch—and ride alongside gauchos while staying in off-grid, rustic outposts deep in Los Glaciares National Park. After several days on horseback, the group will head back to El Calafate where you'll explore the famous Perito Moreno Glacier. The final days of the trip will be in the "trekking capital of Argentina" - El Chalten, where you'll have stunning views of mountain peaks like Fitz Roy and hit the trails, including the legendary Laguna de los Tres hike. Every detail is taken care of—accommodations, transportation, logistics—so all you have to do is show up ready for an unforgettable experience!!

Activity Level/Experience Required

Experience Required: Horseback Riding

The first 4 days of this trip consist of a unique riding program where you'll be paired with a horse and ride across remote areas of the ranch and national park lands from one outpost cabin to the next. This portion of the trip includes up to 6 hours of horseback riding per day over 4 days and therefore is not suitable for complete beginners. Participants must have prior riding experience and be comfortable and confident riding for extended periods. Technical experience (jumping, galloping, etc) is not required.

Activity Level: High

This is an active, on-the-go trip with some built in down time to relax in the evenings/during your free day. In addition to the horseback riding, there are 3 hiking portions built into this itinerary: the Hidden Glaciers Excursion, the Perito Moreno Glacier Excursion, and the Laguna De Los Tres Guided Hike. Each hike varies in mileage and difficulty, with the Laguna De Los Tres hike being close to 14 miles round trip and 3,000 ft of elevation gain (considered "Hard" on AllTrail), while the Perito Moreno Glacier Excursion is a leisurely stroll on about 3 miles of walking paths facing the glacier. The Hidden Glacier Excursion includes a moderate level of activity with around 9 miles of hiking out and back and climbing into and out of boats.

Accommodation Details

This trip includes shared accommodations throughout and does not offer a single room option. At the estancia lodge (main house) and hotels, rooms are double occupancy. During the backcountry portion of the trip, you’ll stay in remote cabin outposts where you’ll sleep in bunk beds in a shared room with up to 10 people  (your group of 8 and up to 2 guides).

Please note: the cabin outposts are rustic and off-grid, offering a unique and immersive Patagonian experience. While both cabins have flushing toilets and clean drinking water, only one has a shower, and neither has electricity, cell phone service, or Wi-Fi — making it the perfect chance to truly unplug and connect with the wild surroundings.

If you're traveling solo (which most of our guests do!), we’ll match you with a roommate. If you have a preferred roommate, just let us know during booking and we’ll do our best to accommodate your request.
